BSU to celebrate senior weekend against MSU and UMary

Beavers to host doubleheaders against MSU Beavers and Marauders

BEMIDJI, Minn. – Bemidji State University softball is set to celebrate the team's 2025 senior class this weekend as they prepare to host Minot State University for the Battle of the Beavers Friday and University of Mary for Senior Day on Saturday. Friday's games are slated for 1 and 3 p.m. with Saturday's at 12 and 2 p.m.

The Beavers enter their first and final home weekend at 16-28 overall with a 1-1 record at home. In the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference, the Beavers take up the 14th spot in the lineup with a 3-17 conference record, just one win ahead of this weekend's opponent UMary. To make the conference tournament in a few weeks, the Beavers need to gain as many wins as possible to move up to the No. 10 spot and find their place in the first round on Apr. 30.

BSU dropped four games to NSIC opponents Wayne State College and then No. 14 Augustana University over the weekend after splitting with University of Minnesota Crookston a few days prior. Following this weekend, they'll finish the regular season on the road at Minnesota State University Moorhead and Northern State University.

The Beavers are led at the plate by their four seniors Aimee Christenson (.339), Mariah Stevenson (.329), Alexa Christenson (.304), and Molly Houts (.298). Stevenson leads the team with 47 hits this season, including seven doubles, one triple and one home run. On the mound, Kennedy Joachim and Payton Prissel lead the team with ERAs of 3.18 and 4.78, respectively. The pair has a combined record of 13-15 with 16 complete games.

Minot State enters the weekend holding the fifth spot in the conference at 25-18 overall and 13-7 in the NSIC, tied with Concordia University, St. Paul who swept them in St. Paul, Minn. last Sunday. Prior to that pair of losses, the Beavers had won four straight against MSU Moorhead and Winona State University. They'll close out the regular season after traveling to Crookston, Minn. Saturday with hosting St. Cloud State University and University of Minnesota Duluth next weekend.

The MSU Beavers boast five players with batting averages over .300 including Anna LaCount who has marked 52 hits on 132 at bats for an average of .394, taking seventh in the conference. Both Reegan Floyd and Jasmine Blizzard lead the pitching staff with ERAs of 1.97 and 2.11, respectively. Blizzard has allowed just 103 hits in 22 games with seven complete games.

At 9-36 overall and 2-18 in the conference, the University of Mary would need to win out over the final two weekends of the regular season to make the NSIC tournament. The Marauders will first head to UMC Friday before facing off against BSU Saturday afternoon. They'll then close the regular season with home games against UMD and SCSU next weekend.

Madison Hunter leads the Marauders with a .333 batting average with 31 hits in 93 at bats. Included in this are two doubles, a triple and two home runs, plus 15 runs and 11 RBIs. On the mound, the Marauders have two pitchers meeting the "one inning pitched per game" requirement and have a lowest ERA of 6.17. Arria Johnson leads the team with that ERA and a 1-9 record in 22 appearances and one complete game. Over 58.1 innings pitched, Johnson has given up 57 hits in 271 at bats with 40 earned runs, 25 walks and 25 strikeouts.

In between games Saturday, the Beavers will celebrate their 2025 senior class of Aimee Christenson, Alexa Christenson, Molly Houts, Johnna Seriano and Mariah Stevenson. All fans are invited to join the team in the Beaver Pride Room inside the PE Building following game two to view a special video tribute from the team.
