Beavers return to road for series against Cougars

BSU Baseball travels to Sioux Falls, S.D., for four games against Sioux Falls

BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Bemidji State University Baseball team continues Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action on the road this weekend after winter weather lingers in Bemidji, Minn., and forces its home series with University of Sioux Falls to be reversed and will now happen in Sioux Falls, S.D., at The Birdcage Saturday-Sunday.
 
The Beavers and Cougars will play two doubleheaders beginning Saturday, April 5 at 1 p.m., and concluding Sunday with first pitch also at 1 p.m. Each game will be streamed online exclusively at NSICNetwork.com/bsubeavers and live stats available, here.
 
Bemidji State is 2-20 (1-15 NSIC) on the season and are coming off a series at Winona State University where the Beavers earned their first NSIC win of the season going 1-3 against the Warriors. BSU is tied for 13th in the NSIC standings while the Cougars enter the weekend with a 12-18 record and are tied for sixth in the league at 8-8 in conference play.
 
Bemidji State is led at the plate by sophomore Beau Thoma who is batting .288 with a team-high 17 hits and is tied for second in the nation averaging 0.41 doubles per game. He is tied for 14th in the NSIC with seven doubles and totaled two in the Beavers' last series. He is followed by junior Noah Drusch who is batting .254 and leads the team with an OPS of .905 after compiling a team-high .492 slugging percentage and .413 on-base percentage. Drusch has 16 hits on the season with six doubles and three home runs while drawing a team-high 11 walks. Senior Zach Evenson has hit five home runs this season, tied for ninth in the NSIC, and has driven in a team-high 12 runs. He has an active 10-game on-base streak, longest for the Beavers this season.
 
On the mound, senior Brandon Lind leads the Beavers' starting rotation pitching in a team-high 20.1 innings and has compiled a 4.79 ERA in four starts. He is 1-3 on the season and is 13th in the NSIC with 29 strikeouts. He is fresh-off collecting his first win of the season pitching a complete game allowing just two hits and struck out a career-high 10 batters against Winona State. He is followed by redshirt sophomore Josh Haugen who has pitched 19.1 innings and is 0-4 in five starts. He has an 11.17 ERA and has collected nine strikeouts.
 
In the bullpen, freshman Matt Greiner leads the Beavers with 13 relief appearances and has pitched 10.0 innings, has a 10.80 ERA and struck out 10 batters. He is followed by junior Cole Smith with seven appearances and has a 7.30 ERA over 12.1 innings and is second on the team with 14 strikeouts.
