Beavers close out regular season by hosting No. 2 Buckeyes

BSU Women’s Hockey makes final Sanford Center appearance of 2025-26 this weekend

BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Bemidji State University Women's Hockey team closes out the 2025-26 regular season this weekend and hosts No. 2 Ohio State University for a pair of Western Collegiate Hockey Association games at Sanford Center.
 
The Beavers (6-23-3, 3-22-1 WCHA) host the Buckeyes (28-4-0, 22-4-0 WCHA) for the second time this season after previously meeting Oct. 10-11 in Columbus, Ohio. Game one is scheduled for a 6:02 p.m. puck drop Friday, Feb. 20 with game two to follow Saturday at 3:02 p.m.
 
Each game will be streamed exclusively online on B1G+ with play-by-play provided by the Beaver Radio Network. The Beaver Radio Network broadcast is also available for each game online at www.beaverradionetwork.com or on the radio at 94.3 FM The Legends.
 
Bemidji State Notes
  • Bemidji State wraps-up the 2025-26 regular season at home against No. 2 Ohio State.
  • The Beavers will honor two seniors and one equipment manager in part of Senior Day festivities Saturday.
  • Raeley Carney, Heidi Strompf and Connor Laschinger will each be recognized following Saturday's game.
  • The Beavers are returning home from a four-game streak of play on the road and have not played in their home rink since Jan. 30.
  • Four of the Beavers' six wins have been at home this season.
  • The Beavers aim to snap a four-game losing streak dating back to Jan. 31.
  • BSU is coming off being swept at (RV) St. Cloud State University falling by scores of 2-6 and 0-5 in that series.
  • The Beavers welcome the No. 2 Buckeyes to Bemidji this weekend, marking their 11th series versus a nationally ranked opponent.
  • Bemidji State is 3-17-0 this season against nationally ranked opponents.
  • BSU is 4-9-0 when playing at home this season.
  • The Beavers and Buckeyes met way back in October for their first series of the season with Ohio State claiming two victories by scores of 6-0 and 2-1.
  • Bemidji State is 29-68-13 all-time against the Buckeyes but are on a 19-game losing streak versus OSU.
  • The Beavers are 17-26-7 all-time against Ohio State at home.
  • The WCHA Playoffs are set to begin Feb. 27 with the WCHA Quarterfinal rounds hosted by campus sites.
  • Bemidji State will be the eighth seed in the tournament and will travel to either University of Wisconsin or Ohio State.
  • Sophomore Morgan Smith leads the team with 25 points (12g-12a) through 32 games surpassing the 20-point mark she set during her freshman campaign.
  • She set career marks in points (25), goals (12) and assists (13) this season and is the first Beaver since Clair DeGeorge (2018-20) with back-to-back 20-point seasons.
  • She is also the first Beaver sophomore to start her collegiate career with consecutive 20-point seasons since Clair DeGeorge (2017-19).
  • Smith is one of five Beavers with 20-points in their first two seasons of collegiate women's hockey joining DeGeorge (2017-20) Kelly Hart (2003-07), Caesare Stimson (2000-02) and Alicia Kinsman (1999-02).
  • She has the most points in a single season for the Beavers since Haley Mack totaled 28 in 2019-20.
  • Junior captain Hailey Armstrong also reached the 20-point mark for the first time this season and has 14 goals and six assists through 32 games.
  • It is the first time since 2019-20 that BSU has had two 20-point scorers in a single season.
  • Armstrong leads the team with 14 goals, ranks t-15th in the WCHA and is tied for 14th for most goals in a single season at BSU.
  • She has skated in 105 career games and totaled 33 goals in her career tying Kelly Hart (2003-07) for 13th all-time at BSU.
  • Armstrong also has three game-winning goals leading the team this season and seven during her career which is tied for the fourth most in program history.
  • Redshirt sophomore Isa Goettl is third on the team with 17 points off seven goals and 10 assists. She has also recorded career-highs in points (17), goals (7) and assists (10) this season.
  • The Beavers' goals per game average of 1.63 this season is the best since the 2019-20 season (1.92).
  • Junior Carmen Bray leads the Beavers' blueline and is sixth on the team with 10 points off 10 assists. She has found her scoring touch as of late and has three assists over the last five games.
  • Sophomore Kaitlin Groess leads BSU netminders with 18 of the team's 32 starts. She has posted a 4-13-2 record, 4.23 goals against average and .875 save percentage.
  • However, senior Ava Hills has started six of the last seven games and leads the team with a 4.14 goals against average and .895 save percentage in 14 starts.
  • Bemidji State leads the WCHA and is 14th nationally with 449 blocked shots.
  • Freshman defender Katy Comstock leads the WCHA and is tied for 15th nationally with 63 blocked shots despite her 5-foot-0-inch stature.
  • The Beavers are in year two under the leadership of head coach Amber Fryklund.
  • She has brought in 11 newcomers to the green and white including transfers Carmen Bray (St. Cloud State) and Elly Klepinger (Minnesota).
  • Junior Hailey Armstrong captains the Beavers during the 2025-26 season and will be assisted by Smith and senior Raeley Carney.
  • Eight freshmen join the team in Senja Leeper (Minnetonka HS), Lola Macuiba (Shawnigan Lake School), Kasey Senden (Hill-Murray HS), Addie Morris (Benilde-St. Margaret's), Paige Smith (Edmonton Jr. Oilers), Maddie Kaiser (Balmoral Hall Prep), Katy Comstock (Warroad HS) and Ashlyn Hazlett (Minnetonka HS).
