SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Bemidji State University Baseball team battled in a tough doubleheader at No. 25 Augustana University Monday afternoon falling 14-0 in game one and 4-1 in game two.
In the first game, Bemidji State managed just three hits and struck out 10 times. Augustana capitalized early with a three-run second inning, extending their lead with two home runs and five doubles.
Jack Feldman recorded one hit in three at-bats.
Ben Corradi added to the offense with one hit and drew a walk over two plate appearances.
Beau Barry pitched 4 1/3 innings, allowing six runs (five earned) on seven hits and striking out five batters.
Barry started for Bemidji State, facing challenges as Augustana got on the board quickly in the bottom of the first inning with a solo home run by Eikmeier, putting them ahead 1-0. Bemidji State managed to keep the game within reach through the third inning, holding the Vikings scoreless after the initial homer. However, Augustana extended their lead with three runs in the second inning and continued to dominate, ultimately winning 14-0.
In the second game, Bemidji State scored two runs on four hits, including a solo home run, but were held scoreless in the final inning. The Vikings capitalized on a three-run fifth inning to secure the win, supported by solid pitching that resulted in 12 strikeouts.
Noah Drusch significantly contributed by hitting a home run, driving in one run, and scoring another, while
Matt Filippi added one hit and one RBI.
Joey Koch pitched 4 2/3 innings, allowing three earned runs on three hits and striking out four batters.
The game began with three scoreless innings, as both teams' pitchers established control early. In the fourth inning, the Vikings took the lead with a solo home run to left field, giving them a 1-0 edge. Bemidji State responded in the fifth when Drusch launched a solo home run to tie the game at 1-1. However, Augustana capitalized on a series of walks and a hit to score three runs, reclaiming the lead at 4-1 by the end of the fifth. Bemidji State managed to close the gap in the sixth inning but was unable to score in the seventh, concluding the game with a 4-2 victory for the Vikings.
Looking ahead, Bemidji State heads to Kansas City, Missouri, to face Rockhurst University for a four-game series beginning Feb. 20.
