Women’s Basketball takes over Sanford Center with NSU and UJ

218 Showcase has Beavers hosting Wolves and Jimmies at the Sanford Center

BEMIDJI, Minn. — Bemidji State University Women's Basketball is set to host Northern State University and University of Jamestown at the Sanford Center in Bemidji this weekend. 
 
With a 5:30 p.m. tipoff Thursday, the Beavers will host the Wolves for Mental Health Awareness Night and a Lueken's Village Foods Bucky's Pantry Drive. On Saturday, tipoff is set for 1 p.m. against the Jimmies and fans are encouraged to wear pink for Valentine's Day and to support Cancer Awareness for the annual Pink Out game.  
 
Bemidji State Notes
  • Bemidji State enters this week at 8-14 overall and 5-13 in the NSIC. The Beavers hold 15th in the conference, three spots away from making the conference tournament with four games remaining. 
  • Earlier this season, the Beavers split their weekend on the road in the Dakotas. BSU took down UJ on their court by a score of 77-61, then fell to NSU, 62-55, the following Saturday. 
  • On Thursday, the Student Athlete Advisory Committee is hosting its annual Mental Health Awareness and Green Bandana games. SAAC will have a table in the concourse of the Sanford Center for people to learn more about mental health and the Green Bandana Project. There will also be a food and hygiene supply drive for Bucky's Pantry, thanks to Lueken's Village Foods of Bemidji. Donations will be given to the on-campus food shelf, helping members of Beaver Territory struggling with food insecurity. 
  • Next weekend, NSIC play comes to a close with BSU heading on the road Thursday to Moorhead, Minn. to take on Minnesota State University Moorhead, before closing the regular-season at home against University of Minnesota Crookston for Senior Day. 
 
Northern State Notes
  • The Wolves are 13-11 overall with an 8-11 record in conference play. They split last weekend with UMC and MSUM, taking down the Dragons by 20 points, but falling to the Eagles by 20. 
  • Izzy Moore leads NSU in every statistical category except blocks and assist-to-turnover ratio. The senior guard averages 17.8 points per game, shoots .467 percent from the field and .400 from the arc, averages 6.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.0 steals. Moore also has the most turnovers per game with 3.0.
 
Jamestown Notes
  • In their first season in the NSIC, the Jimmies are 4-14 in conference play and 6-16 overall. They have split their last two weekends, defeating University of Sioux Falls and MSUM, but falling to Southwest Minnesota State University and UMC. 
  • Allie Berns leads the Jimmies' scoring efforts with 14.7 points per game. She is shooting at .524 percent from the field and leads from the free-throw line at .750 percent. Berns is also the top assist and blocks earner with 1.7 assists and 0.9 blocks per game.
