BEMIDJI, Minn. — Bemidji State University Softball faces another road weekend this week due to inclement weather. Originally scheduled to play at home, the Beavers now travel to Minot, N.D. for a pair of double headers at the Minot Dome against Minot State University and University of Mary.
The Beavers are sitting at 6-25 this season and are still in the search for the first win of their Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference lineup. Currently on an 11-game skid, the Beavers were shutout by the University of Sioux Falls on Sunday. BSU has yet to play a game in Bemidji this season due to inclement weather.
Alayna DeGraef has claimed the Beavers' top spot when it comes to batting average, marking a .370 this season. She has grabbed a team-leading 37 hits with five doubles and one home run with 15 RBIs.
Jackie Larsen and
Aubrey Aukerman have led the way in stolen bases, grabbing 17 between the pair. In the circle,
Keira Lucero leads with a 4.92 ERA.
Sydney Klusman and
Danica Sarff have each grabbed a pair of with this season, with each of the top three pitchers making 16 appearances. Sarff has held opponents to a .262 batting average with a team-leading 33 strikeouts.
With first pitch set for 10 a.m. Friday, the Battle of the Beavers begins. Minot State is 17-15 overall and 2-6 in the NSIC this season. They are currently on a three-game losing streak after splitting with Minnesota State University Mankato and dropping two to Winona State University. Mallory Hoogensen leads Minot State in the batter's box with a .366 average. She has recorded 26 hits with seven doubles and 10 RBIs. In the circle, Katie Newberry leads with a 1.73 ERA and 6-4 record. She has appeared in 12 games and started 11, pitching nine complete games for 68.2 innings. Newberry has held opponents to a .215 batting average this season.
Saturday's games are slated for 2 and 4 p.m. from the Minot Dome due to predicted snowfall in Bemidji and Bismarck. The Marauders are 10-20 this season and are also searching for their first NSIC win of the season, currently on an eight-game losing streak. Kaitlyn McLaughlin leads Marauder batters with a .371 average and .421 on-base percentage. She has amassed 39 hits with two doubles, four triples and nine RBIs. Arria Johnson leads from the pitcher's circle with an ERA of 3.42 and 6-7 record.
