BEMIDJI, Minn. – In the first day of action of the NSIC Northern Crossover, held in Bemidji, Minn. the Bemidji State University women’s softball team dropped both contests of the day. The Beavers fell to Winona State 13-0 in its first game of the day and then lost a heartbreaker in the seventh inning to Wayne State (Neb.) 3-2 in their second contest of the day.

Amy Potter (Bovey, Minn.) got off to a rough start on the mound in game one for the Beavers allowing twelve Warrior runs in just an inning and two-thirds of work. Lindsey Imhof (Littlefork, Minn.) replaced Potter and finished the game allowing just one run on one hit in three and a-third innings of action.

The Warriors were able to put up seven runs on nine hits in the first innning of action to set the pace for game one. The Beavers were unable to get their bats going as they were only able to pick up one hit in the game. The lone hit for the Beavers came off the bat of Jamie Docken (Owatonna, Minn.) when she single to right field in the fourth inning.

In the first contest Bemidji State would fall 13-0 in five innings to the Winona State Warriors.

With the loss Potter fell to 3-7 on the season.

In the second game of the day the Beavers battled the Wayne State (Neb.) Wildcats. Bemidji State put together two runs in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game at two apiece, but the tie would not last long as in the top half of the seventh inning the Wildcats would push the eventual winning run accross the plate.

The Wildcats jumped out to an early 1-0 lead at the end of the first inning and would add another run in the top of the sixth to take a 2-0 lead. In the bottom half of the sixth inning the Beavers put together a two out rally starting with a Jamie Docken (Owatonna, Minn.) walk. Michelle Taylor (St. Michael, Minn.) would replace Docken on the base paths. Following the Docken walk Amy Klaers (Elk River, Minn.) would muscle a single through the infield and Taylor would score on a throwing error by the Wildcats and Klaers would end up on second. Bridget Smith (Burnsville, Minn.) stroked a RBI single to center field to score Klaers from second, which was the game tying run.

The Wildcats would draw a walk and put together a couple of hits to push the game winning run across the plate in the top-half of the seventh inning. Bemidji State would get set down in order in the bottom of the seventh to lose a heartbreaker 3-2.

Ali Willard (Hutchinson, Minn.) had a solid outing for the Beavers on the mound as she allowed just three runs on five hits while just walking three batters in a complete game peformance.

With the loss Willard falls to 6-4 on the season for the Beavers.

With the two losses on the day the Beavers record falls to 14-16, 3-9 in the NSIC.

In the final day of the annual NSIC Northern Crossover the Beavers will play games at noon and 4:00 p.m. taking on Concordia St. Paul and Southwest Minnesota State.
