The Bemidji State University volleyball team gave Dallas Baptist
University all they could handle Friday evening at the
GrapevineWoods.com Lady Buff Classic in Canyon, Texas, but in the end
it was the Patriots that took the match in three games.
Brittney Burns (Jr., LaSueur, Minn.) paced the Beaver offense for the second consecutive match collecting 11 kills.
The
Beavers played right with DBU during each of the first two games
dropping game one 30-28 and forcing the second game to the score of
34-32 before the Patriots to a 2-0 lead in the match. But the Beavers
would run out of fuel from there falling 30-16 in game three to finish
the first day of the classic 0-2.
In addition to Burns, newcomer Brie Groskreutz (Fr., Reedsberg, Wis.) posted a career-highs of nine kills and a team-best 13 digs in the match while junior college addition Alaina Adams (Jr., Halstad, Minn.) added seven kills.
Alicia Beaman
(Jr., St. Paul Park, Minn.) ran the BSU attack for the majority of the
match collecting a match-best 24 assists and eight digs while equaling Anna Leafblad (Fr., Coon Rapids, Minn.) for the team lead with a pair of blocks.
Brandi
Moss led Dallas Baptist to the win recording 12 kills on 24 attempts
while committing just four errors (.333). Erin Black led all players
with 16 defensive saves.
The Patriots out hit
the Beavers on the night posting a .182 (40-20-110) attack percentage
while BSU hit just .099 (44-32-121) as a team.
Bemidji
State now 0-2 on the season will be back in action tomorrow when they
wrap up the 2006 GrapevineWoods.Com Lady Buff Classic with a 1:00 p.m.
match versus the hosting Buffaloes and a 5:00 p.m. tilt versus New
Mexico Highlands University.
