Box Score 2 MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- The Bemidji State University softball team used 36 hits to garner two wins over Swarthmore College and Ursinus College in the first day of its spring break trip to Myrtle Beach, S.C. The Beavers’ record now is 6-2, which is just two wins shy of their win total from all of last season.
In game one, the Beavers faced Swarthmore College. Bemidji State broke the game open with a pair of three-run frames in the third and the fifth. Sophomores Mikayla Osterman (C, Sierra Vista, Ariz.) and Lyndsey Peterson (OF, Cottonwood, Minn.) notched the big hits in both of those innings. Osterman smashed two-run triples in each of the frames, while Peterson posted a double and a single to plate Osterman in each inning to give the Beavers a six-run lead, 7-1, at the end of five.
Starting pitcher Danielle Jecmen (P, Fr., Bloomingdale, Ill.) shut down the Garnet offense the rest of the way as the Beavers cruised to a 7-1 win. Jecmen threw all seven innings for BSU and allowed just the one Swarthmore run, to earn her third victory of the season.
In second contest of the day, the Beavers posted another solid hitting performance. BSU totaled 14 hits and eight of the nine players in the lineup contributed at least one hit.
Bemidji State scored four times in the third and fifth innings to separate itself from Ursinus College in the 9-4 victory. A pair of Woodbury, Minn. natives led the BSU offense as Nicole Dupay (OF, Sr.) and Kaitlyn Shea (OF, Fr.) both posted three hits and two RBI in the victory.
Allison Roberts (P, Jr., Crystal, Minn.) got the win in the circle for the Beavers. Roberts allowed seven hits, four runs (three earned) with four strikeouts.
BSU will return to action in day two of the Snowbird Softball Invitational Tuesday, as it will face Delaware Valley College and Arcadia University at 8:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. respectively.
