Box Score BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Bemidji State University women's hockey team evened its weekend series with St. Cloud State University Saturday afternoon with a 2-1 victory over the Huskies. The Beavers (8-13-3, 5-13-2 WCHA) earned three points in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association standings to improve their season total to 16 and sit sixth in the standings.
Bemidji State got off to a quick start against the Huskies when Paige Beebe scored just 2:51 into the hockey game. The goal was the seventh of the season for Beebe as she was assisted by Lydia Passolt and Makenna Deering. Bemidji State carried the one-goal lead into the first intermission and also held a 15-7 shot advantage.
The Beavers didn't quit there and just 2:11 into the second period, sophomore Gabbie Smith scored on a wrap-around attempt that fooled goaltender Emma Polusny to give the Beavers a two-goal lead. The goal was the fourth of the season for Smith and she was assisted by Lindsey Featherstone and Taylor Nelson. Bemidji State would again carry the two-goal lead into the second intermission and out-shot the Huskies 13-10 during the frame.
St. Cloud State found its legs in the third period and just 2:34 into the final frame, Addi Scribner scored for the Huskies to pull them within one. However, sophomore Hannah Hogenson and the Beavers defense shut the door on the Huskies and completed the 2-1 victory to earn the series split.
Hogenson finished with 25 saves in the game and improved to 7-8-3 this season while her counterpart Polusny falls to 4-6-1 after stopping 40-of-42 shots.
Bemidji State earned one power play during the game and failed to score with the extra skater while the Huskies earned two power plays and the BSU penalty kill denied them on both chances.
Bemidji State remains at home next weekend and will welcome University of St. Thomas to Sanford Center for the first time since the Tommies' joined the WCHA.
