BEMIDJI, Minn. – After falling in overtime to University of Wisconsin to open the 2023 Ice Breaker Tournament last night, the Bemidji State University Men's Hockey team was the victor in the overtime period Saturday night as sophomore
Lleyton Roed scored 59 seconds into the extra frame to earn a 3-2 victory over Army-West Point at Sanford Center.

The Beavers overcame a one-goal deficit 7:30 left to play and rallied to earn their first victory of the season. Bemidji State improves to 1-1-0 during the first weekend of action and finish second in the Ice Breaker Tournament standings with three points. University of North Dakota won the Ice Breaker Tournament with two wins.

After a scoreless first period, the Black Knights (0-3-0) opened the scoring in the game 1:28 into the second period when Jake Hewitt scored an unassisted goal. The lead didn't last long for Army as sophomore
Adam Flammang used his quick release to score the game-tying goal just 2:23 later from the top of the slot.

The score would remain tied until the third period and just 1:38 into the frame, Army retook its lead with a power-play goal from Brent Keefer just seven seconds before the Beaver penalty expired.

The Beavers didn't quit and with just 7:30 remaining, freshman
Eric Pohlkamp fired the puck from just inside the blueline and scored his first career goal wearing a green and white sweater.

The teams would need overtime to decide the winner and just 59 seconds into the extra frame, Roed took the puck coast-to-coast and scored his second goal of the season to propel the Beavers to their first win of the season.

Seven different Beavers recorded a point in the game including
Kyle Looft,
Carter Jones,
Eric Martin and
Jackson Jutting who each tallied assists.

Senior goaltender
Gavin Enright collected the Beavers' first victory between the pipes after he stopped 22-of-24 shots. His counterpart Evan Szary earned the loss and stopped 20-of-23 shots.

After a program record breaking performance Friday night, Bemidji State junior goaltender
Mattias Sholl was selected to the Ice Breaker All-Tournament team and was joined by UND's Jackson Blake, Hunter Johannes, Garrett Pyke and University of Wisconsin's Cruz Lucius and Joe Palodichuk. Johannes was voted the tournament's most outstanding player.

Bemidji State will now continue non-conference play and will play a home-and-home series with University of Minnesota Duluth next weekend. The Beavers and Bulldogs begin the two-game set in Duluth Friday, Oct. 20 and will then travel to play the series finale in Bemidji, Saturday.
