DULUTH, Minn. – The Bemidji State University Track and Field team competed in their final meet before the winter break coming away with seven top-three results and four event wins to highlight the St. Scholastica Open on Saturday.
Mary Goodwin, Tierra Doss, Natalie Fultz and Olivia Olson all won events on the day. Goodwin ran to a time of 10:35.56 to win the 3,000-meter. Doss hit a mark of 44-5.50 to win the shot put. Fultz reached a height of 5-3.00 to win the high jump. Olson then gave the Beavers four event wins taking home first-place in the pole vault clearing 10-6.00.
Janice Cole competed in her first 60-meter and won the prelim with a time of 7.87. Then in the final, Cole placed second with a time of 7.80. Olson, Harmony Heath and Gabrielle Marks also competed in the 60-meter. Olson qualified for the final with a time of 8.11. Heath posted a time of 9.11 and Marks at 9.12. It was the first collegiate 60-meter dash for both Heath and Marks. Olson ran to a time of 8.15 in the final to place sixth.
Fultz also competed in the 60-meter hurdles coming in with a prelim time of 9.57 for a new personal-best. In the final, Fultz placed fourth with a time of 9.64.
Maggie McCarthy led four Beavers in the mile competing in the event for the first time crossing with a time of 5:39.40 to come in fourth. Nadia Vaughn posted a time of 5:56.99 to come in 12th. Callie Ressler came in 14th with a time of 6:00.62. Sydnie Price added a time of 6:23.76 to place 16th. It was Price's first collegiate mile.
Cole continued her strong day also competing in the long jump for the first time reaching a distance of 17-7.00 to place second. Heath competed in her first collegiate long jump hitting a mark of 13-2.25 to place 14th.
Mikenna Pattrin, Cassidy Schmidt, Emma Erickson, Hannah Baker, Molly Saboo and Zoe Lennon also competed in the shot put along with Doss. Pattrin placed fourth with a throw of 37-11.50. Pattrin's mark equals her personal-best from the outdoor season. Schmidt came in 12th with a mark of 31-10.25. Erickson was right behind placing 13th with a throw of 30-7.75. It was Erickson's first event as a member of the Beavers. Fellow transfer from Wisconsin-Superior in Baker also competed in her first event with the Beavers placing 15th with a mark of 29-10.25. Saboo competed in her first collegiate shot put placing 17th with a throw of 27-11.50. Lennon competed in her first collegiate event placing 18th with a mark of 27-1.25.
Abbie Disbrow came in fourth in the triple jump hitting a mark of 33-8.00.
Pattrin, Erickson, Baker, Schmidt and Lennon all competed in the weight throw. Pattrin led the Beavers coming in third with a mark of 50-6.75. Erickson was the next one to place for BSU coming in eighth hitting a mark of 43-10.50. Baker was just a few spots back coming in 10th with a throw of 38-11.75. Schmidt hit a new personal-best with a throw of 33-5.75 to come in 14th. Lennon rounded out the results for the Beavers placing 21st with a throw of 25-7.25.
Bemidji State will now be off until January 20 when they will compete in the YellowJacket Open in Superior, Wis.
