Goodwin breaks her own program record in the steeplechase to highlight St. Thomas Invitational

Beavers post five top-five results

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Mary Goodwin smashed her previous school record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, while the Bemidji State University Women's Track and Field team collected several top-five results at the St. Thomas Invitational on Friday.

Goodwin cut over 27 seconds off her record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase when she crossed with a time of 11:02.48 to win the event. Her time is already close to a provisional as well. Goodwin's strong showing helped highlight an overall solid day for the Beavers in the steeplechase. Maggie McCarthy added a top-five finish coming in fourth with a time of 12:46.89. Nadia Vaughn and Callie Ressler also competed in the event for the first time in their collegiate careers. Vaughn came in sixth with a time of 13:00.18 and Ressler in eighth with a time of 13:35.09.

Alaina Hall added another event win for Bemidji State in the 100-meter crossing with a time of 12.26. Olivia Olson ran in the event for the second straight meet and improved her season time coming in at 12.98 to place 12th.

Tierra Doss came in runner-up in the shot put with a new season-best throw of 43-9.25. Alyssa Hill competed in the shot put for the first time in her collegiate career hitting a mark of 33-8 to place 19th. Zayda Priebe made her season debut in the event coming in 22nd with a throw of 32-9.75.

Lexi Erickson ran in her first outdoor 800-meter of the season coming in fourth with a time of 2:18.85.

Abby Syverson led four Beavers in the 200-meter coming in with a new personal-best time of 27.38 to place 14th. Erickson was right behind crossing with a time of 27.61 to place 20th. Josie Aitken wasn't far behind Erickson with a time of 27.70 to come in 22nd which is a new PR competing in the 200 for just the second time. Rounding out the results for the Beavers was Amanda Smith with a time of 29.39.

Natalie Fultz paced the Beavers in the 400-meter equaling her PR time of 1:00.52 to come in seventh. Syverson also competed in the 400 coming in 11th with a time of 1:01.56. Aitken added the 400 to her events list as well coming in right behind Syverson with a time of 1:01.95 to place 14th.

Carol Miller posted a new personal-best time in the 1,500-meter crossing at 5:07.48 to place 29th.

Lily Johnson competed in the 400-meter hurdles coming in ninth with a time of 1:11.88.

Fultz and Erickson each competed in the high jump. Fultz and Erickson each cleared the same height of 5-0.25 with Fultz placing seventh and Erickson eighth, as Fultz cleared 5-0.25 on her first attempt and Erickson her second.

Olson cleared 9-1 in the pole vault to come in 10th.

Hall added to her day entering in the long jump reaching a mark of 15-11 to place 12th.

Abbie Disbrow competed in the triple jump reaching a distance of 32-4.75 to place ninth.

Mikenna Pattrin was close to her PR set last week in Montana in the hammer with a throw of 138-3 to place eighth. Alexis Gehrig also competed in the hammer with a throw of 119-10 to come in 15th.

Bemidji State will have a busy week coming up. The Beavers will be sending some student-athletes to California to compete in the Cal State Twilight Open Apr. 12-13 and to the Bryan Clay Invitational Apr. 13-15. The week will finish up back in Minnesota at the Saint John's University Open in Collegeville, Minn.
