Beavers hit the road for Winter Carnival at (RV) Michigan Tech

BSU Men’s Hockey looks to rebound with series at (RV) Michigan Tech

BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Bemidji State University Men's Hockey team is back on the road this weekend for a Central Collegiate Hockey Association series at (RV) Michigan Technological University in Houghton, Mich.
 
The Beavers (9-15-4, 6-11-3 CCHA) are looking to end a two-game skid when they face the Huskies (15-9-2; 11-5-2 CCHA) Friday and Saturday. Game one is slated for 6:07 p.m. CST Friday, Feb. 7 with game two Saturday at 4:07 p.m. CST.
 
Each game will be exclusively streamed online at MidCo Sports Plus with Husky Athletics providing play-by-play. Beaver Hockey fans can also tune-in to a Beaver Radio Network broadcast on the radio dial at 92.1 FM or online at www.beaverradionetwork with Brian Schultz on the call.

  • The Beavers hit the road for their second remaining road trip in the regular season and their final series before
  • Just six games remain in the 2024-25 regular season.
  • Four of the Beavers' six remaining games are on the road with their final home series slated for Feb. 21-22 against Bowling Green State University.
  • Bemidji State is eighth in CCHA standings with a .400 points percentage and 6-11-3 league record.
  • Just five points separates the Beavers from seventh in the standings and fifth.
  • The Beavers are looking to bounce back from two losses against Ferris State University this past weekend.
  • BSU out-paced the Bulldogs totaling 62 shots to just 36 but were held to just two goals by FSU goaltender Noah West who was named the CCHA Goaltender of the Week for his efforts.
  • The Beavers hit the road for the first time since Jan. 25-26 and five of their nine wins have come away from their home rink.
  • Bemidji State is 5-7-2 when playing on the road this season.
  • Michigan Tech is coming off a series sweep of Northern Michigan University and winners of four of its last five games.

  • Michigan Tech enters the weekend third in the CCHA standings with a .630 points percentage and is 11-5-2 in league play.
  • Bemidji State and Michigan Tech meet for the second meeting of their regular season series and last played Dec. 13-14 at Sanford Center.
  • The Beavers earned a shootout victory over the Huskies in game one to earn two league points but the Huskies responded with a 9-5 victory in game two.
  • The Huskies hold a 25-22-9 record in the all-time series and are 3-0-2 in the last five meetings.

  • Senior Mattias Sholl is 3-7-3 in 13 starts against the Huskies and has a .899 save percentage and 2.83 goals against average.
  • Head coach Tom Serratore is 22-25-9 in 24 seasons coaching against the Huskies.
  • Kirklan Irey lead the Beavers and is eighth in the CCHA with 21 points (9g-12a).
  • Eric Martin follows with 18 points off nine goals and nine assists. His nine goals this season are a career-high surpassing last season's mark of eight this past weekend.

  • Irey leads the Beavers with seven power-play points (1g-6a) while Martin, Kasper Magnussen and Parekh are each tied with six.
  • Jutting leads the team with four power-play goals with Martin and Magnussen each following with three.
  • Bemidji State's penalty kill is sixth in the league with a penalty-kill percentage of .783 (54-of-69) and have successfully killed off its last seven penalty kills.
  • BSU has been called for a league-low 79 penalties this season and their 69 opponent power plays leads the CCHA and is the 10th fewest in Division I.
  • Senior defenseman Will Magnuson leads the CCHA with 63 blocked shots despite missing three games due to injury. He is tied for second in the nation.
  • Bemidji State is 11th in DI and second in the CCHA with 375 blocked shots.
  • Senior goaltender Mattias Sholl has started 27 of the team's 28 games between the pipes and has played in 94-percent of the team's minutes.
  • Sholl is 8-14-4 on the season with a 2.84 goals against average and .894 save percentage.
  • He is fourth in the nation in minutes played (1603:00) and 13th with 641 saves.
  • Sholl is climbing Bemidji State's goaltending record books and in the Beavers DI era, he is tied for second in BSU's DI era with 46 career wins.
  • He is also second in saves (2,526), ninth in save percentage (.904), seventh in GAA (2.57) and fifth in shutouts (6).
  • Fifth-year senior Eric Martin has 83 career points during his time with the Beavers. He is the 21st Beaver in their DI era to surpass 80 career points and his 57 career assist are the 11th most in BSU's DI era.
  • Martin has played in 156 career games for the Beavers which is the fourth most in program history.
  • Head coach Tom Serratore is approaching 400 career victories and has 397 career coaching victories.
  • He seeks to become the 31st head coach in Division I Men's Hockey to reach the 400-win milestone and the 12th active head coach.
  • Serratore is 397-375-103 in his 24 seasons as head coach of the Beavers and boasts a .514 career winning percentage.
  • Jackson Jutting was voted the team's captain by his peers during the summer and will dawn the "C" while Martin, Austin Jouppi and Jere Vaisanen will each serve as alternates.
  • A.J. Macauly and Reilly Funk join the Beavers with past collegiate experience after Macauly played two seasons at Alaska-Fairbanks and Funk played three seasons at Northern Michigan.
  • The Beavers boast their experience this season and have three graduates, five seniors, and seven juniors on the squad.
  • The Beavers were picked to finish second in the CCHA Preseason Coaches' Poll while senior goaltender Mattias Sholl was the unanimous CCHA Preseason Goaltender of the Year.
  • Serratore is in his 24th season at the helm of the Bemidji State Men's Hockey program. He is 397-375-103 (.514) in his coaching career.
  • Since taking over the Bemidji State Men's Hockey program in 2001, Serratore's teams have achieved eight regular-season conference championships, three CHA tournament titles, five NCAA Tournament appearances, one NCAA Frozen Four appearance (2009) and he is an eight-time conference Coach of the Year including most recently in 2024.
  • The 2024-25 Beaver roster consists of 27 student-athletes with three graduates, five seniors, seven juniors, five sophomores and seven freshmen.
  • The team consists of 8 Minnesotans, 24 from North America including nine Canadians and three from Europe.
  • By average, the Beavers are one of the smallest in Division I. They are tied for third in DI for the smallest by height averaging 5'11.6" and the smallest by weight averaging 178.9 pounds.
