BEMIDJI, Minn. – Bemidji State University Women's Golf has taken the 12
th spot in this year's NSIC Preseason Women's Golf Coaches' Poll. The Beavers ended the 2024-25 season two spots higher at the NSIC Women's Golf Championship back in April.
Sara Sroga earned the Beavers' NSIC Preseason Player to Watch nod after finishing her freshman campaign in 53
rd at the NSIC Championships last spring. Sroga, a sophomore from Mounds View, Minn., played 19 rounds and averaged 87.4 strokes per round. She had her best tournament placing at the Wildcat Classic, hosted by Wayne State College, where she went 86 and 81, 23 over par. Earlier in the season, Sroga marked a scorecard of just 19 over par at the EverSpring Inn & Suites Mustang Invite in September. In the NSIC Championships, Sroga marked scores of 94, 91 and 89.
"Sara had a strong freshman season last year - really consistent and put together some low rounds," said Women's Golf Head Coach
Erica Gartner. "I expect her to build on that, continue to take strides towards lowering those scores even more and really competing with the top players in our league."
As a team, the Beavers' best finish of the 2024-25 season came during BSU's own Tracy Lane Memorial Golf Tournament in September. The team finished sixth of nine teams with one player breaking the top 25 individually for the tournament. This season, the Beavers return one senior,
Isabella Depew, and three juniors,
Abby Turkowski,
Nakomis Mitchell and
Haylee Kammann.
"I'm excited for this team because we bring back a lot of experience that will help us lower the overall team scores each tournament," said Coach Gartner. "We have a group that enjoys being around each other and pushes each other to do better both on and off the course, which you love to see as a coach. I expect us to use the camaraderie and experience to our advantage and post some consistent low scores!"
The Beavers start their fall schedule by hosting the Tracy Lane Memorial Golf Tournament Sep. 8 and 9 at the Bemidji Town and Country Club. They are set to participate in four tournaments this fall before preparing for the spring schedule.
