ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Bemidji State University
women’s soccer team gained its first conference win
of the season today with a victory over Concordia-St. Paul.
They way they got the win was simple; they just took advantage
of opportunities. Although the team only managed a total of
three shots in the two halves of play, they made good on two
of them to take 2-1 the win.
The first goal of the game came in the 25th minute when freshman
forward
Lindsey Natwick put the ball right
in front of the net on the corner kick. BSU’s
Amanda
Miller jumped up and headed the ball past the Concordia
goalkeeper to give the Beavers a 1-0 lead. It was Miller’s
second goal of the season.
Concordia would come back to even the game, 1-1, just eight
minutes into the second half (54th). Sara Ulman would take
the pass from Lyndsey Gagas to put it past the Beaver goaltender
Niki Dalka for the Golden Bears only goal
of the contest.
BSU’s top scorer,
Natwick put the Beavers
ahead to stay less then two minutes later, in the 56th minute,
when senior mid fielder
Amy Vleck fed Natwick
for her 10th goal of the season. The goal put Bemidji State
up 2-1, and that is the way it would stay as
Dalka
made 11 saves in the game for the win.
The BSU win brings the Beaver’s record to 4-9 on the
season and 1-7 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference
competition. It also marked head coach
Jim Stone’s
first NSIC win at Bemidji State.
The Beavers will be back in action tomorrow (Oct. 26) as they
travel to Winona, Minn. to take on the Warriors of Winona
State. Coming into the weekend, the Warriors are 6-5-4 overall
and rank second in the NSIC with a 4-1-1 record. The game
is set to start at 12:00 p.m.
