The Bemidji State University soccer team traveled to Crookston,
Minn. to take on the UM-Crookston Golden Eagles today. The
Beavers were shut out for the second straight game to drop
to 3-6 overall and 0-4 in the NSIC this season.
The University of Minnesota-Crookston took the lead in the
tenth minute of the game when Cory Sak would score and unassisted
goal off a free kick. The Golden Eagles would add another
before the end of the half when Carrie Waugh found the net
off the cross from Lauren Thompson, also assisted on the play
by Rachelle Johnson.
In the second half UMC would add another goal as Lauren Thompson
scored her fourth goal of the season off a corner kick from
Amber Frey to bring the score to 3-0. And that is the way
it would stay.
The Beavers we never able to get into the game, getting out
shot by the Golden Eagles 28-0. According to coach Stone they
were just not able to keep up due to lack of depth. BSU was
short five of its regular players. Emily Curcuruto and Carly
Napier were on the road with the women’s hockey team,
Amanda Miller was battling an illness, Jill Hodorff injured
her ankle and top scorer Lindsey Natwick was hobbled by a
knee injury from the Minnesota State-Moorhead game one day
earlier. “The girls played hard but its hard to compete
with five of your 17 girls out,” commented coach Jim
Stone.
The Beavers will have a few days to get healed up and healthy,
but will be back in action Thursday (Oct. 10) when the University
of Minnesota-Duluth comes to the BSU Field for an NSIC tilt.
The Game is set for a 3:00 p.m. start.
