ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Bemidji State soccer
team lost its Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference-opener
2-0 to Concordia-St. Paul Saturday afternoon. The Beavers
fall to 0-1-0 in NSIC play and have now lost three consecutive
matches.
After a scoreless first half in which the teams each registered
six shots, Concordia St. Paul used a pair of goals from Rachel
Vitense in the second half to secure a 2-0 win. Vitense notched
her first marker in the 61st minute before striking a second
time in the 77th minute of the match.
BSU was unable to generate any scoring after falling behind
2-0 and the visitors were outshot 12-4 in the second half
and 18-10 for the contest.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Kari Torgerson (New
Hope, Minn.) collected seven saves in the loss, dropping her
record to 7-6-0 on the season. Netminder Kara Gamboni stopped
eight shots for the Golden Bears.
Bemidji State now owns a 7-6-0 overall record and an 0-1-0
mark in NSIC play, while Concordia-St. Paul improves to 7-7-0
overall and 1-0-0 in NSIC competition. BSU will look to win
its first conference game of the year at Winona State Sunday
afternoon at 1 p.m.
