GRAND FORKS, N.D. - After dropping its first three matches against Minnesota State, Moorhead, Winona State and North Dakota, the Bemidji State tennis team rebounded with victories over Minnesota State, Mankato and Concordia, Moorhead on Friday, Feb. 27 and Saturday, Feb. 28 at the University of North Dakota Invite.

The duo of Emily Berg and Angie Harrison proved to be the Beavers' top performers on the weekend, as they compiled a 3-0 record at number two doubles. Berg and Harrison netted BSU’s only doubles point against both MSU-Moorhead and Winona State. The tandem topped the Dragon’s Genna Carlson and Michelle Howard, 6-4, 6-2, and the Warriors’ Laura Holert and Katie Katterheinrich, 4-6, 6-2, 10-8. Berg and Harrison also knocked off MSU-Mankato’s Jamie Koerner and Christina Newbauer, 6-2, 6-3, to cap a strong showing for the Beavers.

Bemidji State also received doubles points from Holly Gilbertson and Thea Kinney at number one. Gilbertson and Kinney secured a 6-0, 7-6 (7-4) win over Marilyn Riniker and Liz Retzlaff of MSU-Mankato and a 6-2, 6-0 triumph over Concordia’s duo of Sarah Hartmann and Amber Buysman. Sherry Kuzel and Breck Rolfsrud dropped Concordia’s Chelsea Kline and Tina Jacobson 6-1, 6-2 at number two to round out BSU’s doubles scoring.

In singles play, the Beavers captured three points, including Breck Rolfsrud’s 6-2, 6-0 win over MSU-Mankato’s Diana Clawson at number one. Emily Berg tallied her first singles point of the season by dispatching Concordia’s Melissa Laumeyer 5-7, 6-4, 10-7 at number three. BSU was granted a forfeit victory at number three against North Dakota, as the Fighting Sioux did not field a competitor in that slot.

The Beavers are now 3-4 overall and 0-2 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference competition this season. BSU resumes play on Saturday, March 20 and Sunday, March 21 against Gustavus Adolphus and Minnesota State University, Moorhead. Bemidji State challenges the Gusties at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday and the Dragons on Sunday at 9:00 a.m. Both contests will be played in Moorhead, Minn.
