Box Score BEMIDJI, Minn. - The Bemidji State University tennis team used a gutsy performance at No. 3 singles to push past Minnesota State University-Moorhead, 5-4, and complete a weekend sweep Sunday at the Gillett Recreation/Fitness Center after defeating Concordia College just 24-hours earlier by the same score.

Senior co-captain Angie Harrison (Virginia, Minn.) was in control of her No. 3 singles match. After defeating Beth Helgeson 6-2 in the first set, she needed just two points to take the second set 6-1 and gain an important point for the team. But when Harrison was hurt badly while attempting to rush the net, the match looked to be in doubt. After pulling herself together and getting the "ok" from the BSU athletic training staff, she hobbled back on the court and needed just three serves to gain the victory, sealing the match and NSIC win for the Beavers.

"I've never seen such heart, determination, and sheer sacrifice in an athlete before," commented BSU head tennis coach Keri Wood. "Angie is to be commended for such dedication to the game and to her team. She is a true leader who bleeds green and white."

Harrison will meet with bone specialists Monday to discern the severity of the injury.

Also gaining crucial singles points for BSU were Kristin Lexcen (Coon Rapids, Minn.), who defeated MSUM's Maria Cederberg (6-0. 6-0) at No. 5 singles and Emily Foster (Bemidji, Minn.) who claimed the No. 6 singles spot for BSU with a win over Dragon Kayla Parker (6-4, 4-6 (10-5)).

The Beavers gained two of the three points in doubles competition. After Holly Gilbertson (Litchfield, Minn.) and Harrison ere defeated by Kathryn Helget and and Rose Milless (8-1), BSU came back to defeat the Dragons in the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles matches. Melissa Fogelson (Bemidji, Minn.) and Sherry Kuzel (East Grand Forks, N.D.) defeated Heather Buesing and Helgeson (8-4) and Emily Berg (Red Wing, Minn.) and Sarah Berg (Bemidji, Minn.) took the No. 3 doubles point with am 8-1 win over Claudia Irina and Maria Cederberg.

In non-conference play Saturday, BSU's strong doubles play to to edge out Concordia College.

Harrison and Gilbertson took the No. 1 doubles match (8-6) and E. Berg and S. Berg gained a win over the Cobbers at No. 3 doubles while Kuzel and Fogelson pushed CC's Kelsey Schendel and Annie Styba to 9-7 before falling in the No. 2 spot.

Using momentum gained, BSU split the singles competition with Concordia gaining wins at No. 1, No.3 and No. 6 to take take its third team victory of the season, 5-4.

The Beavers move to 4-7 overall and 2-1 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate competition. The pair of wins marks the first time in more than four years that the Beavers have collected a weekend sweep over its opponents. BSU will be back in action March 11 when it travels to Duluth, Minn. to battle North Central Region foe University of South Dakota at 6:30 p.m.
