Box Score BEMIDJI, Minn. - [box score] The Bemidji State University tennis team used a sweep over Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference foe University of Minnesota-Crookston Saturday to snap a seven-game losing streak and gain its first win of the 2006 campaign, 9-0. The sweep marks the Beavers' first blanking of an opponent since the spring of 2000.

BSU got out of the gates quickly earning win at each of the three doubles positions. the tandem of Melissa Fogelson and Kali Welu topped Lindsey Johnson and Tara Sylvester at No. 1 doubles, 8-4 while Kristen Lexcen and Julie Kapsner in the No. 2 slot and Jenna Jespersen and Amy Erickson at No. 3 each gained wins by the score of 8-1.

The winning srting continued into singles competition as all but one of BSU's participants won in straight sets. At No. 2 singles, Welu battled back from dropping the first set to Sylvester 6-7 (3) in a tie-breaker to earn a 6-1 win in the second set and take the match 10-7 in a superset tie-breaker.

The win brings the Beavers to 1-7 overall and 1-3 in NSIC play. UMC drops to 0-3 on the season and 0-2 versus the league.

BSU is back in action tomorrow as ithost St. Cloud State University in non-conference play. Competition is due to start at 9 a.m. at BSU's Gillett Recreation/Fitness Center.
