Box Score BEMIDJI, Minn. - The Bemidji State University
tennis team was able to pick up a win at the No. 4 singles spot from
Amy Erickson (Roseau, Minn.) but were unable to get its first victory
of the year Sunday as the Minnesota State, Moorhead Dragons defeated
the Beavers by a score of 8-1 at Alex Nemzek Hall in Moorhead, Minn.
Play
started with doubles competition where the Dragons were able to sweep
the points despite the tough challenge given to them at the No. 1
doubles spot where the pair of Kristen Lexcen (Andover, Minn.) and Kali
Welu (Pequot Lakes, Minn.) were edged out by the Dragons team of Rose
Milless and Miranda Quast by a score of 8-6.
Singles
action saw Erickson get her second victory of the season at the No. 4
singles spot as she climbed from being down the first set to claim the
point over the Dragons Claudia Irina with a score of 1-6, 6-4, 10-5. At
No. 1 singles Welu took her opponent Ashley Taborsky to a tiebreaker
but was unable to get the point falling by a score of 6-2, 3-6, 10-8.
The
Beavers now stand at 0-8 (0-3; NSIC) for the 2007 season and are back
in action Monday as they play the St. Cloud State Huskies in an
afternoon match that was recently added by head coach Scott Sorenson
scheduled for 2:00 p.m. The Beavers return home on Wednesday as they
host the University of Minnesota, Crookston Golden Eagles at the
Gillett Recreation and Fitness Center at 2:00 p.m.
