Box Score DULUTH, MINN. - The University of Minnesota Duluth
Bulldogs completed a season sweep of the Beavers Friday as they came
away with a 9-0 victory at the Burns Wellness Commons located on the
College of St. Scholastica campus.
The
Bulldogs started the match by sweeping the doubles points. The Beavers
team of Kali Welu (Jr., Pequot Lakes, Minn.) and Shelia Hoberg (So.,
Bismarck, N.D.) put up a fight but were unable to come away as the
Bulldogs Rose Phippen and Brynne Wischer were victorious 8-5 at No. 1.
The No. 3 doubles match was also tight as the Bulldog team of Carolyn
Dahlman and Lyndsey Seaver edged the Beaver’s Farrah Steinke
(Fr., Crosby, Minn.) and Cheyanne Maki (So., Watford City, N.D.) by the
score of 8-6.
Singles saw the most
entertaining match of the day as Bemidji State’s Steinke matched
up against the Bulldog’s Kelly Rosengren at No. 5 singles. The
first set was all Rosengren as she won the set 6-3. Steinke however
showed resilience as she battled back to take the second set 7-5. The
third set saw both competitors battle back and forth but the second set
comeback wasn’t enough for Steinke as she fell in the tiebreaker
10-7.
The loss drops the Beavers record to 3-10 while the Bulldogs improve to 6-4.
Bemidji
State is set to face off against the College of St. Scholastica Saints
Saturday at 8 a.m. at the Burns Wellness Commons. From there the
Beavers will travel home to face off against the Minnesota State
University Moorhead Dragons with the match scheduld to be begin at 10
a.m. at the Gillett Recreation and Fitness Center located on the
Bemidji State University campus.
