GRAND FORKS, N.D. - The Bemidji State University
tennis team saw its four-match winning streak come to an end Saturday
as the Beavers were defeated 7-2 by Augustana College in Grand Forks,
N.D.
Augustana swept all three doubles
matches to take a commanding lead going in to singles play. The Vikings
continued their excellent play throughout singles competition, earning
straight-set victories from Brittany Gaster, Adrienne Conley, and Sarah
Lamberty. Augustana also received a victory from Emily Johnson at No. 3
singles in a three-set thriller. She defeated Kelli Christiansen
(Bemidji, Minn.) 6-2, 6-7, 12-10. The match was a back-and-forth
affair, but Johnson was able to pull out the victory in the third set.
Amy Erickson (Roseau, Minn.) and Nicole Christiansen
(Bemidji, Minn.) remained undefeated in conference play winning their
singles matches in straight sets to remain undefeated in conference
play, giving the Beavers two matches on the day.
Bemidji State is now 4-4 overall and 4-3 in NSIC play.
The
Beavers will look to get back on track with a pair of dual matches on
March 20 in St. Cloud, Minn. against Concordia College and St. Cloud
State University. Bemidji State will square off against Concordia
College at 5 p.m. followed by St. Cloud State at 8 p.m.
Bemidji
State University, located in Bemidji, Minn., is an NCAA Division II
institution and a member of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference
(NSIC).
