BEMIDJI, Minn. (Gillett Recreation/Fitness Center) -- Bemidji State University senior Lindsey Luberda (Champlin, Minn.) accounted for both of the Beavers’ team points, scoring a singles victory and joining fellow senior Farrah Steinke (Pequot Lakes, Minn.) for a doubles point, as BSU fell to Concordia College (Minn.), 7-2, Friday in nonconference action at Gillett Recreation/Fitness Center.
Luberda and Steinke made easy work of the Cobbers’ No. 1 doubles pair of Katie Edin and Ayah Kamel, 8-5, to garner a point for BSU in doubles play. The BSU No. 3 duo of Kara Johnson (Jr., Andover, Minn.) and Miranda Milless ( So., Motley, Minn.) nearly earned the Beavers a second point in pairs action, but CC’s team of Julie Olson and Kelly Kalvoda took the point 9-8 in a super set tie-breaker (10-1) to give the Cobbers a 2-1 lead heading into singles play.
Concordia-Moorhead dominated singles play earning straight-set victories at No. 1, 3, 4, 5, and 6 singles to sew the match up. Luberda was also responsible for BSU only team point of singles play. After dropping the first set 6-1 to Kamel in the No. 2 singles match, she rallied to take the second set 7-5 and won the super set tie-breaker 10-8.
The Beavers, now 2-5 overall, return to action Sunday when they host Minnesota State University, Mankato for a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) match up. The meet is scheduled for a 10 a.m. start.
