Box Score

BEMDIJI, Minn. (Gillett Recreation-Fitness Center) -- The Bemidji State University tennis team dropped a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) match up to St. Cloud State University, 9-0, Saturday at the Gillett Recreation-Fitness Center.

The Beavers, who were hosting the Huskies for their final home match of the 2013 season, found themselves in a 3-0 hole upon the completion of doubles play. The SCSU pair of Katie Kotschevar and Maribelle Siegfried defeated BSU's Caley Westin (So., Virginia, Minn.) and Meg Hafdahl (Sr., Virginia, Minn.) 8-1 at the No. 1 spot. St. Cloud State would hold a 2-0 lead in the match after Hanna Kantor and Gabbie Pung outlasted the Beavers' No. 2 double pair of Jessica Dulz (Fr., Minneapolis, Minn.) and Nicci Hedtke (Fr., Nisswa, Minn), 8-6. Jordee Matson and Laura Hintzen completed the sweep by earning an 8-0 win over Carlie Loeks (Fr., Elbow Lake, Minn.) and Carmen Backoeski (So., Little Falls, Minn.) in the No. 3 slot.

In singles play, Hafdahl, who was the Beavers' No. 2 singles player, forced Siegfried to a first-set tiebreaker, 7-6 (7-3), before falling 6-0 in the second set. Other than Hedtke, who was forced to retire due to injury after a 6-0 loss in the first set of her No. 4 singles match, the Beavers' singles players were defeated in straight sets as SCSU completed the 9-0 win.

The BSU tennis team, now 0-5 overall and 0-4 in NSIC play, seek their first team victory next weekend when they travel to Bismarck, N.D. for a trio of NSIC matches. The Beavers will play Northern State University and Minnesota State University, Moorhead Saturday at 1 and 4 p.m., respectively, before meeting the University of Mary at 9 a.m. Sunday.
