Box Score 3 ST. CLOUD, Minn. -- The Bemidji State University tennis team dropped a pair of Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) matches in St. Cloud, Minn. today in a return for a month-long break.
Playing in its first action since Feb. 24, BSU opened the day of competition with a neutral-site match versus Augustana College. The Vikings took the top two doubles matches, 8-0 and 8-1, before earning a victory in No. doubles due to default en route to a 9-0 victory.
With a 3-0 lead heading into singles play, AC didn't stop rolling. Augustana earned straight-sets wins in three of six matches, won matches at No. 3 and 4 singles positions due to injury and No. 6 via default.
Caley Westin (So., Virginia, Minn.) earned BSU's lone point in an 8-1 loss to St. Cloud State University in the nightcap.
The Beavers went into singles play trailing 3-0 after losses at No. 1 and 2 doubles, 8-2 and 8-0, and No. 3 doubles due to default. Westin posted a 6-3 edge in the first set of her No. 1 singles match and dropped the second set 6-0 before rebounding to gain the victory in the tiebreaker. However, BSU’s No. 2 and 3 singles players, Emily Rollins (So., North Branch, Minn.) and Nicci Hedtke (Fr., Nisswa, Minn.) lost straight sets matches and the Beavers were forced to pull out of the final three singles matches and ultimately lost the match, 8-1.
Bemidji State, now 0-10 overall and 0-8 in NSIC play, returns to action April 6 with for a 2 p.m. non-conference match versus Martin Luther College in New Ulm, Minn.
