GRAND FORKS, N.D. -- The Bemidji State University tennis team traveled to Grand Forks, N.D. Saturday for a pair of neutral-site Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) matches to wrap up the league regular season. BSU was defeated in both matches and fell to 1-13 overall and 0-11 in NSIC play.

The Beavers got the day underway with a match versus University of Minnesota Crookston.

The Golden Eagles earned victories at No. 1 (8-4) and 2 (8-5) doubles and completed pairs action with a 3-0 lead in the match after taking No. 3 doubles due to forfeit.

UMC kept rolling as singles play began, taking straight-set wins in the top four solo positions and after an injury at No. 5 singles and forfeit in the final singles spot, Minnesota Crookston completed the sweep, 9-0, for its second victory of the season and first NSIC triumph.

Senior Meg Hafdahl (Virginia, Minn.) led the way for the Beavers in the season finale. She earned victories in singles and doubles play to complete her collegiate career in style despite BSU falling to Southwest Minnesota State University, 7-2.

Hafdahl and doubles partner Caley Westin (So., Virginia, Minn.) posted an 8-5 victory at No. 1 doubles, but after Nicci Hedtke (Fr., Nisswa, Minn.) and Evan Kolberg dropped the No. 2 doubles match and BSU was forced to forfeit the doubles match at No. 3, BSU trailed 2-1 entering singles play.

It took a tiebreaker, but Katie Kienitz took the first singles match from Westin 1-6, 6-3 (11-9) to put the Mustangs up 3-1 as singles play got underway. Hafdahl then captured her second victory of the match posting a straight-sets win over Shelly Manahan at the No. 2 singles slot, 7-6 (6-4), 6-2, but Hedtke and Kolberg each dropped their singles matches and BSU was forced to forfeit the final two matches of singles play as SMSU completed the 7-2 win.
