BEMIDJI, Minn. (Gillett Recreation-Fitness Center) -- The Bemidji State University tennis team hosted its first home event of the season Feb. 28-March 1, and came out of the weekend 1-2 including a 1-1 record Sunday. The Beavers were swept by Augustana College, 9-0, and then swept University of Minnesota Crookston, 9-0.

Sunday, the Beavers ran into trouble as they faced Augustana. The Vikings put BSU in a 3-0 hole after winning all three doubles matches, and then finished the sweep by collecting wins in all six singles matches. The Beavers however redeemed themselves as they took on Minnesota Crookston later in the day. BSU took all three doubles matches against the Eagles. The No. 2 doubles pair of Carly Westin and Rachel Franklin as well as BSU's No. 3 team, Sabrina Okeson and Justine Scheller didn’t allow their opponents to win a single game, 8-0. The Beavers also took all six singles matches, however, Shaylin Prout and Deanie Hatch, at No. 1 and No. 2 singles respectively, both needed a tie break to earn match victories.

The Beavers, now 1-7 overall and 1-6 in NSIC play, will be back on the road March 22, traveling to Sartell, Minn. for a pair of nonconference match ups. BSU will open the weekend with a 12 p.m. contest against Martin Luther College Sunday and will follow up with a 3 p.m. match against University of Minnesota-Morris.
