Box Score GRAND FORKS, N.D. -- The Bemidji State University tennis team traveled to Grand Forks, N.D. for a trio of NSIC matches March 28-29. The Beavers completed the weekend of competition with a 9-0 victory over the University of Minnesota Crookston to post a 1-2 record on the road trip.
BSU got out to a solid start versus the Golden Eagles taking all three doubles matches. The No. 2 doubles pair of Carly Westin and Rachel Franklin as well as BSU's No. 3 team, Sabrina Okeson and Claudia Bellew, didn’t allow their opponents to win a single game, winning 8-0. The Beavers’ success continued into singles play, also winning all six matches. Both Claudia Bellew, at No. 3 singles, and Anna Buck in the No. 6 singles spot, outscored their opponents 6-0, 6-0 for a straight-set sweep victories. BSU's four other singles players also posted straight-set wins, including Shaylin Prout, who battled back from a 5-1 deficit in the second set to win her No. 1 singles match 7-5, 7-5.
The Beavers, now 3-9 overall and 1-8 in NSIC play, will return home April 11-12 to host a pair of NSIC conference match ups. BSU will open the weekend with a 9 a.m. contest Southwest Minnesota State University Saturday. The Beavers will wrap up the weekend with a match against Minnesota State University, Mankato, Sunday at 9 a.m..
