Box Score BEMIDJI, Minn. (Gillett Recreation/Fitness Center) – The Bemidji State University women’s tennis team fell to Minnesota State University, Mankato Sunday, 8-1.
Although the Beavers gave MSU all it could handle in doubles play, the Mavericks swept the double matches, 9-7, 8-1 and 8-6 to take an early lead in the match.
In singles play, No. 1 Shaylin Prout was able to gain some momentum as she won her first set, 6-4. Although she lost the second set, 6-2, Prout was pushed through to win the tie break, 10-4, and took the match. Justine Scheller also gave BSU a chance at gaining a team point, earning a 6-3, first-set win at No. 6 singles. But she dropped the second set, 6-2, and was edged in a tie break, 10-4.
MSU took five out of the six singles matches to cruise to a 8-1 victory.
The Beavers, now 4-10 overall and 3-9 in NSIC play, will be back at home Sunday, April 19, to host University of Minnesota Duluth in their final NSIC match up of the regular season. The event will begin at 11 a.m. at the Gillett Recreation/Fitness Center.
