Box Score FARGO, N.D. (Courts Plus Tennis Facility) -- The Bemidji State University Tennis team rode a strong singles performance to a 6-3 victory over the University of Mary in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play Sunday in Fargo, N.D.
After getting just one victory in the doubles portion of the competition, a 9-8 (7-3) victory by Breann Walsh and Jackie Damberg in the No. 3 slot, the Beavers trailed the Marauders 2-1. BSU turned it around securing wins in five of six matches to take the win.
The Beavers opened singles play with a straight-sets victory, 6-2, 6-2, by Brooke Mimmack in the No. 4 spot. Walsh (6-4, 6-1) and Hannah Peterson (6-1, 6-0) followed with the same, in the No. 5 and No. 6 singles matches, respectively, to give the Beavers a 4-2 lead. Hannah Alme used a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 3 singles match to tip the event in BSU's favor. Ariadna Lopez-Simo completed the win by battling back from a 6-1 loss in the first set to take the match in a tiebreaker, 1-6, 6-4 (10-7).
The Beavers, now 7-4 overall, improve to 5-4 versus NSIC competition. BSU returns to action April 6-7. BSU will travel to Lakeville, Minn. April 6 for a 6 p.m. match with Southwest Minnesota State University before wrapping up the regular season with a 4 p.m. meeting versus Minnesota State University, Mankato the next afternoon in Mankato, Minn.
