Beavers fall in season opener in non-conference action against Golden Eagles

GRAND FORKS, N.D. – The Bemidji State University Tennis team began the 2024 season playing against Minnesota Crookston in non-conference action on Saturday in Grand Forks. The Beavers tallied a win in singles, but the Golden Eagles claimed the 6-1 win.

In doubles, Ana Lucia Ibanez and Emilia Sand tallied three games at No. 2 before falling, 6-3. Isabela Nelson and Laura Burger collected two games at No. 3 before coming up just short, 6-2. Kate Taylor and Valesca Rodriguez competed at the top flight falling, 6-1.

In singles, Lucia Ibanez picked up the win at No. 4 pulling out the three set win. After dropping the first set in a tiebreaker (6-7), she responded with a 6-0 win in the second set and 7-5 win in the third. Taylor at the top flight also went three sets. After also dropping the opening set in a tiebreaker (6-7), she responded with a dominating 6-2 win in the second set. In the final set, Taylor wasn't able to come all the way back falling in the decisive set, 4-10. Sand won six games at No. 3, 4-6, 2-6. Rodriguez won three games at No. 2, 3-6, 0-6. Nelson won a game at No. 6, 1-6, 0-6 and Rodriguez fell at No. 2, 3-6, 0-6.

Bemidji State will now prepare for NSIC play next week returning to Grand Forks to play St. Cloud State on Friday starting at 12 p.m. and then on Saturday against Minnesota Duluth at 9:45 a.m.
