Beaver Tennis looks to rebound with three matches over the weekend

BSU Women’s Tennis faces Minnesota Crookston, Bethany Lutheran and Wisconsin Stout Mar. 28-29

BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Bemidji State University Women's Tennis team looks to rebound from two losses this past weekend and prepares to face University of Minnesota Crookston in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play as well as Bethany Lutheran College and University of Wisconsin-Stout in non-conference action March 28-29.
 
The Beavers (4-5, 2-2 NSIC) begin the weekend facing the Golden Eagles (5-5, 2-2 NSIC) for the second time this season Friday, March 28 in Grand Forks, N.D. BSU will then travel to Rogers, Minn., to take on Bethany Lutheran and Wisconsin-Stout Saturday for a pair of non-conference matches.
 
Entering the weekend, the Beavers are tied for fifth in the NSIC standings with a 2-2 league record and with just five NSIC matches remaining, the Beavers sit in postseason positioning into the six-team NSIC Women's Tennis Tournament. The Beavers hope to match the NSIC Tournament for the first time since 2021.
 
Leading the Beavers at No. 1 singles, graduate Sophie Groen has played eight of the team's nine matches at the lead spot and is 5-3 this season which is the fourth-best win percentage at No. 1 singles in the NSIC this season.
 
She is followed by freshman Mia Leshem who has played six matches at No. 2 singles and is fourth in the conference with a 4-2 record at the spot. She is 5-2 overall in her first season with the Beavers, tied for 10th best record among all singles competitors in the NSIC.
 
Sophomore Valesca Rodriguez has played in six matches at No. 3 singles and is 2-4 and 4-5 overall. She is followed by sophomore Ana Lucia Ibanez who is 2-7, freshman Lauren Rutten who is 3-3 at No. 5 singles and freshman Julia Lindseth who is 1-5 at No. 6 singles.
 
In doubles, Groen and Leshem have teamed up at No. 1 doubles for seven matches and are second in the NSIC with a 5-2 record at No. 1 doubles. Rodriguez and Ibanez have teamed up for six matches at No. 2 doubles and are 2-4 while Lindseth and Rutten lead the team at No. 3 doubles and are 0-5.
