BEMIDJI, Minn. – Bemidji State University Women's Tennis freshman
Paula Garcia Acebal was honored as the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Player of the week for the weekend of Feb. 6-7 after helping the Beavers to two wins. Garcia Acebal earns her first collegiate weekly accolade and marks the second consecutive week that BSU Women's Tennis has had a weekly award winner.

This is the first time in program history that two Beavers have earned back-to-back NSIC Tennis weekly awards.

Garcia Acebal helped the Beavers achieve their best start to a season on record in the programs history after the team defeated University of Minnesota Morris and University of Minnesota Crookston in Grand Forks, N.D. She went 2-0 in singles and 2-0 in doubles over the weekend. She began by defeating Minnesota Morris' Allison Bruhn 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 singles and then earned a comeback victory over Minnesota Crookston's Asli Oktay 4-6, 6-2, 10-8 at No. 2 singles.

In doubles action she teamed with fellow freshman
Marla Davies for a 6-0 win at No. 1 doubles against Minnesota Morris and then teamed with sophomore
Lauren Rutten for another victory at No. 2 doubles.

Garcia Acebal and the rest of the Beavers now prepare to begin NSIC play with matches against Minnesota Duluth Friday and St. Cloud State University Saturday in Duluth, Minn.
