LAKE CITY, Minn. – Bemidji State University freshman Jack Hagberg tied for sixth individually to lead the BSU Men's Golf team to a third-place finish at The Jewel Invite, held September 21-22 at The Jewel Golf Club in Lake City, Minn.
 
The Beavers posted rounds of 294 and 291 to finish the 36-hole tournament with a team score of 585. Bemidji State entered the final round in third and maintained its position with a three-stroke improvement Tuesday.
 
Winona State University captured the team championship with a two-round score of 577 after posting rounds of 287 and 290. University of Sioux Falls finished second at 583, two strokes ahead of the Beavers, after firing the lowest team round of the tournament with a final-round 284.
 
Hagberg paced Bemidji State with a two-round score of 144, tying for sixth individually, his first top-10 finish of his collegiate career. After opening the tournament with a 2-over-par 74, Hagberg carded a 2-under-par 70 Tuesday to climb into the top-10.
 
Freshman Valentin Ortiz joined Hagberg in the top 10, tying for ninth with a 2-over-par 146 in his first collegiate tournament. Ortiz followed an opening-round 74 with an even-par 72 in the final round.
 
Myles Jorde tied for 12th after recording a two-round total of 147. Jorde opened the tournament with the Beavers' lowest round, firing a 3-under-par 69, before closing with a 78.
 
Riley McGovern produced the largest second-round improvement among the Beavers, cutting seven strokes from his opening round. McGovern followed a 78 with a 1-under-par 71 to tie for 22nd at 149.
 
Gavin Dahle rounded out the Beavers' scoring lineup in a tie for 48th with a 156 after posting rounds of 77 and 79. Competing as an individual, Charlie Williams tied for 52nd with a two-round score of 158. Williams carded matching rounds of 79 during the tournament.
 
Brennan Weckwerth of Concordia University-St. Paul earned individual medalist honors with a 4-under-par 140 after recording rounds of 68 and 72. Logan Chouinard and Luke Maas of Winona State tied for second at 3-under-par 141.
 
The Beavers return to competition October 5-6 at the Skip Wagnon Invitational in Edmond, Okla.
