Bemidji State finishes road weekend with 4-3 victory over U-Mary

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (Choice Fitness and Therapy) -- The Bemidji State University Tennis Team posted a 4-3 victory over the University of Mary Saturday in Grand Forks, N.D. The neutral-site win allowed the Beavers to improve to 5-5 on the season and 2-4 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play.

The Beavers were swept in doubles play to open the singles portion trailing the Marauders, 1-0.

Ariadna Lopez-Simo posted a straight-sets win in the No. 2 singles match (6-4, 6-3) to pull the Beavers even. After Zoë Lindgren was defeated 6-4, 6-4 in the No. 1 slot, Hannah Alme posted a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles to tie the match, 2-2.

The Marauders to the lead when Jamie Stoppler earned a 6-0, 7-5 victory in the No. 4 singles match over BSU's Brooke Mimmack. The loss forced the Beavers to pull out wins in the final two singles matches to defeat U-Mary. Breann Walsh and Hannah Peterson came through. Walsh won her No. 5 singles match 6-4, 6-3 and Peterson was a 6-3, 6-4 winner at No. 6 singles.

The Beavers, now 5-5 overall and 2-4 in NSIC play, return to their home courts at the Gillett Wellness Center March 2-3 when they host Minnesota State University, Mankato and Southwest Minnesota State for a pair of NSIC match ups. The Beavers welcome the Mavericks at 9 a.m. Saturday and the Mustangs at noon Sunday.
