BEMIDJI, Minn. -- The Bemidji State University tennis team fell 4-3 to Southwest Minnesota State University and 5-2 to Minnesota State University Mankato during this weekend's road trip to Owatonna, Minn. The Beavers are now 3-3 this season and 1-3 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.

Versus SMSU, the Beavers dropped the early doubles point with just one win in the No. 1 doubles spot from Sophie Groen and Shaelyn Johnson. In singles play, the Beavers earned wins in the first three spots from No. 1 Groen, No. 2 Johnson and No. 3 Nicoleta Anestiadi, earning three of the six singles points. Groen fought through three sets for the No. 1 singles point, 6-1, 2-6 then 7-5 in the tie breaker.

This morning, MSU took the first point of the match, winning two-of-three doubles matches in the No. 1 and No. 3 spots. The lone doubles win came from No. 2 Nico Anestiadi and Laney Rutkowski, 7-5. The Beavers then won two singles matches versus the Mavericks, ultimately falling 5-2.

The Beavers now head home to host Winona State University on Feb. 18 and Upper Iowa University on Feb. 19 before a month-long break until they host University of Minnesota Crookston on Mar. 19.
