BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Bemidji State University Tennis team fell 5-2 to Winona State University this evening. The Beavers were unable to capitalize in extra sets and move to 3-4 on the season and 1-4 in NSIC competition. Senior Laney Rutkowski was honored prior to the match for Senior Day. 

Doubles play was a battle for the Beavers, splitting No. 1 and No. 3 doubles position wins with the Warriors, 2-6 and 6-2, respectively. BSU's Nico Anestiadi and Laney Rutkowski fought hard for the extra point, ultimately losing 7-6 (7-3).

Singles play also saw extra sets as three Beavers had to face a third set in their respective matches. Pulling away with wins in singles play were No. 1 singles Sophie Groen, 3-6, 6-2, 6-4, and No. 2 singles Shaelyn Johnson, 2-6, 6-4, 6-0. Johnson remains undefeated this season and both are expected to remain in their No. 1 and No. 2 singles positions for the rest of the weekend.

The Beavers now look to tomorrow afternoon when they will face Upper Iowa University and University of Minnesota Crookston to close out home court matches for this season.
