Box Score 2 BEMIDJI, Minn. -- The Bemidji State University tennis team earned two more wins during home play today versus Upper Iowa University and University of Minnesota Crookston. The Beavers are now 5-4 this season and 3-4 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play.
Upper Iowa
The Beavers battled hard through multiple tiebreakers to take the first win of the day from the Peacocks, 4-3. They earned the doubles point with wins from the duo of No. 1 doubles team Sophie Groen and Shaelyn Johnson and No. 3 doubles team Bela Nelson and Lexi Leitner.
In singles play, the Beavers and Peacocks split the competition, each taking three matches. Johnson remains undefeated in the No. 2 singles position this season and took down UIU's Jessa Michieli 6-3, 6-2. Senior Laney Rutkowski and junior Taylor Offerdahl battled through extra, tie-breaking sets in their respective singles matches to come out with two wins for BSU.
Minnesota Crookston
BSU swept the doubles competition versus UMC, dropping just three games to the Golden Eagles. The No. 2 doubles pairing of Nico Anestiadi and Laney Rutkowski dominated the court against UMC's Michelle Swyter and Samantha Gutierrez, sweeping them 6-0.
Singles competition saw wins in the No. 1 position all the way to the No. 5 position for the Beavers, adding five points to the scoreboard. Bela Nelson fought through a tie-breaking set to earn the No. 4 singles competition 6-2, 3-6, 10-7.
The Beavers will now take over one month off of competition play, resuming March 26 in Grand Forks, N.D. versus Bethany Lutheran College in a non-conference matchup.
