Box Score BEMIDJI, Minn. -- The Bemidji State University tennis team opened its 2022 spring season with a 4-3 loss against St. Cloud State University in a neutral site matchup.
Bemidji State swept doubles play with Sophie Groen and Shaelyn Johnson taking the No. 1 spot, 6-4, Nico Anestiadi and Laney Rutkowski taking No. 2, 7-5, and Isabela Nelson and Lexi Leitner winning the No. 3 tiebreaker sets 7-6 and 4-0. BSU earned the doubles point and gaining an early lead.
Singles play saw wins from Groen and Johnson in the No. 1 and 2 spots, respectively. Anestiadi fought in the No. 3 spot against SCSU's Shanna Kinny, going into a marathon of sets, ultimately falling in the last two 7-4 and 7-5. Rutkowski, Nelson, and Lily Jones were unable to add to the Beavers' points, each falling in two sets to their opponents. The Huskies ended with four singles wins versus the Beavers' two.
Bemidji State will play University of Minnesota Duluth tomorrow morning at 9:30 a.m. in Grand Forks, N.D.
