Box Score BEMIDJI, Minn. -- The Bemidji State University tennis team earned its first spring 2022 win this morning, defeating University of Minnesota Duluth, 6-1, in Grand Forks, N.D.
Bemidji State earned the doubles point with wins from the pairing of Sophie Groen and Shaelyn Johnson in No. 1 doubles and from Laney Rutkowski and Nico Anestiadi in the No. 2 spot. Lexi Leitner and Isabela Nelson fell 2-6 in the No. 3 doubles position.
The Beavers swept No. 1-4 singles as well as earning a point from Lily Jones in the No. 6 position. In the No. 2 singles position, Johnson dropped just one game to Minnesota Duluth's Isabel Resler, marking scores of 6-0 and 6-1. Jones earned her points by sweeping set one versus Abby Johnson and dropping just three games in set two.
The Beavers now sit at 3-1 overall after this weekend's split and last fall's two wins. They are also 1-1 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play.
Bemidji State will now travel to Owatonna, Minn. for a pair of matches on Feb. 12 and 13 against Southwest Minnesota State University and Minnesota State University Mankato, respectively.
