Box Score 2 BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Bemidji State University tennis finished the 2021-22 season this weekend with a split weekend against University of Mary and Minnesota State University Moorhead.
Versus the Mauraders, the Beavers were swept in all positions for a final score of 7-0. Shaelyn Johnson put up a fight against Ilona Freitag, going into three sets but falling in the tiebreaking set, 6-4, 3-6, 0-6. Isabela Nelson also fought for extra games, ending her first set against Heidi Jacobson 5-7.
BSU ended the season in the win column against MSUM, taking the last match 4-3. The Beavers took the early doubles point with wins in the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles positions. In singles play, Sophie Groen and Shaelyn Johnson took their front-of-the-lineup matches to tie the match at 3-3. Freshman Nicoleta Anestiadi was the deciding match for the team, taking her sets 6-2 and 7-6 to clench the final point.
The Beavers finished the season with a 7-7 record, 5-7 in NSIC recognized play, and 4-7 in the conference. Bemidji State tied with St. Cloud State University for 8th place in the NSIC, but lost in the head-to-head tiebreaker losing the invite to the NSIC Championships.
