Beavers continue NSIC Tournament with semifinal match at top-seed SCSU Friday

BSU Women’s Soccer seeks second consecutive NSIC Tournament Championship

BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Bemidji State University Women's Soccer team continues its Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Tournament run this weekend in the semifinal match of the conference tournament.
 
The fourth-seed Beavers travel to face top-seed and host institution St. Cloud State University Friday, Nov. 10 at Husky Field in St. Cloud, Minn. The match will kick-off Friday at 2 p.m., following the first semifinal match of the day between University of Mary and Concordia University-St. Paul.
 
The winner of the semifinals will advance to the championship match Sunday also at Husky Field at 1 p.m.
 
Each match will be streamed live on NSICNetwork.com with play-by-play provided by Matt and Mark Privratsky from Equal Time Soccer.
 
The winner of the NSIC Soccer Tournament earns an automatic bid into the NCAA DII Women's Soccer Tournament set to begin next weekend.
 
Bemidji State Notes
  • Bemidji State entered the NCAA Regional Rankings for the first time this week coming in at ninth in the poll.
  • The Beavers advanced to the semifinal match after defeating fifth-seed Augustana University in double overtime by a score of 2-1 Monday at Chet Anderson Stadium.
  • Redshirt freshman Kenzie Harer scored the game-winning goal in the 105th minute to send the Beavers onto the next round while senior Lauren Hodny tied the game in the 87th minute to keep the Beavers' season alive.
  • Bemidji State enters the weekend with a 10-3-6 record and went 7-3-4 in conference play earning 25 league points to earn the fourth seed in the conference tournament.
  • The Beavers seek their second consecutive NSIC Tournament Championship after claiming their first in program history last year.
  • Senior defender Halle Peterson was named the NSIC Defensive Player of the Year earning the award for the first time and marking three consecutive years that a BSU defender has earned the recognition.
  • She joins midfielders Maggie Cade and Maria Stocke as All-NSIC First Team selections while Katrina Barthelt, Lauren Hodny and Megan Ko were named to the All-NSIC Second Team.
  • Bemidji State is led on offense by Barthelt who finished second in the NSIC with 10 goals during the regular season. She finished the season with 22 points (10g-2a) to stand third in the conference.
  • She was followed by Stocke who scored four goals during the regular season and freshman Madeline Davey with three.
  • Hodny paces the Beavers this postseason with three points after assisting on the Beavers' game-winning goal while also scoring the equalizer.
  • Peterson anchors the Beavers' backline that finished second in the NSIC with just 13 goals allowed during the regular season. The Beavers led the NSIC by allowing just 61 shots on goal over the 18-match season.
  • Junior Edie Frantzen has played every minute in goal for the Beavers and has made 56 saves while earning nine shutouts. She has posted a 0.73 goals against average and .800 save percentage.
  • Frantzen helped guide the Beavers to their first round victory by stopping a career-high nine saves. This followed a previous career-high of seven saves against University of Minnesota Duluth in the regular season finale to earn the Beavers home field advantage in which she was named the NSIC Goalkeeper of the Week for the first time.
  • Bemidji State and St. Cloud State met earlier this season on Sept. 17 with the Beavers earning a 2-0 shutout at Chet Anderson Stadium.
  • Barthelt and Stocke each scored first half goals in the game while Frantzen turned aside all four shots she faced.
  • The Beavers are 11-10-3 all-time against the Huskies and are 6-2-2 over the last 10 matches. However, the Beavers are just 3-5-3 when facing St. Cloud on the road.
  • Bemidji State last met St Cloud State in the semifinal match of the NSIC Tournament on Nov. 13, 2019 with the Huskies earning a 1-0 victory to move on to the championship match.
