GRAND FORKS, N.D. – A second straight trip to Grand Forks will be on the schedule this weekend for the Bemidji State University Women's Tennis team as they will play the University of Mary on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. and then MSU Moorhead on Sunday beginning at 3 p.m. in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action.
Bemidji State (2-11, 1-6 NSIC) played a pair of matches last Saturday in Grand Forks falling to Sioux Falls (5-2) and #14 Augustana (7-0).
Nicoleta Anestiadi continues to lead the team in singles wins with seven. Over the past two matches, Anestiadi moved back up to the No. 2 spot. Blanca Lopez-Oro has five singles wins, all at No. 1. Laura Burger has three wins, Lily Jones adds two and Isabela Nelson, Emilia Sand and Lexi Leitner all have one victory apiece.
In doubles, Leitner has six wins to lead the team, tallying three wins each with Jones and Burger. Burger has four wins, with the other victory coming with Lopez-Oro. Jones has three wins, all with Leitner. Nelson, Lopez-Oro and Sand add one win each.
UMary is 6-5 overall and 5-2 in conference play. They picked up the 4-0 win last time out against Southwest Minnesota State. Prior to that, they lost 5-2 against Minnesota State, Mankato.
Hala Hossam-Awad leads the Marauders with 10 singles victories, all coming at No. 4. Doaa Farouk-Mohamed has eight wins, seven coming at No. 2. Ilona Freitag and Chloe Chong added six wins apiece. In doubles, Chong and Freitag have seven wins together, all at No. 1. Farouk-Mohamed and Hossam-Awad add six wins together, all at No. 2.
UMary has won the past three meetings. Prior to that winning streak, BSU had won four straight from 2016 until 2019.
The Beavers will close the weekend against MSU Moorhead on Sunday. The Dragons are 5-9 overall and 1-6 in NSIC play. They will face Minnesota Crookston on Saturday before playing BSU.
MSU Moorhead has lost six straight with their last win coming on Feb. 25 against Gustavus Adolphus. Last weekend they lost to both Minnesota State, Mankato (7-0) and Southwest Minnesota State (6-1).
Tannah Gu leads the team in singles wins with eight, seven coming at No. 2. Shaelyn Johnson has seven wins, all at No. 1. Madison Bell adds six wins, five coming at No. 6. In doubles, Tia Dykema and Johnson each have eight wins.
The teams have split their past two meetings with the Dragons winning last year by a 6-1 score. The Beavers won the 2022 meeting by a score of 4-3 in Fargo. Prior to that, MSU Moorhead had won six straight from 2017 until 2021.
Following the road matches this week, Bemidji State will return home to host Minnesota State, Mankato on Apr. 14 starting at 1:30 p.m. They will close the weekend also hosting Southwest Minnesota State on Apr. 15 beginning at 1 p.m.
