GRAND FORKS, N.D. – For the second straight week, the Bemidji State University Women's Tennis team was in Grand Forks for Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action. Lily Jones added another singles win, but it wasn't enough as the University of Mary claimed the 6-1 victory on Saturday.
In doubles, Lexi Leitner/Laura Burger stayed right in their match at No. 3. The pair pushed the match the distance before UMary (7-5, 6-2 NSIC) held on for the 7-6 victory. Blanca Lopez-Oro/Nicoleta Anestiadi won three games at No. 1 before falling by a score of 6-3. Emilia Sand/Isabela Nelson fell by a score of 6-0 at No. 2.
Bemidji State (2-12, 1-7 NSIC) then recorded a point in singles with Jones coming through. Jones tallied the straight set win at No. 6 after rolling to the 6-2 win in the first set, she battled to hold off a challenge in the second set for the 7-5 win.
Lopez-Oro stayed right with her opponent at the top flight. She won eight games overall and after dropping the first set, 6-3, she was one game away from forcing a tiebreaker in the second before falling just short by a score of 7-5.
Anestiadi collected three games at No. 2, dropping by set scores of 6-2, 6-1. Nelson also won three games in her match at No. 5 falling by scores of 6-1, 6-2. Sand at No. 3 and Burger at No. 4 fell by the same set scores of 6-0, 6-1.
The Beavers will remain in Grand Forks to face MSU Moorhead on Sunday starting at 3 p.m.
