BILLINGS, Mont. – Having waited to open the outdoor season for the past few weeks, the Bemidji State University Women's Track and Field team finally began the new season this week competing in the Yellowjackets/Battlin' Bears Open in Billings, Mont., that took place Friday and Saturday. It was an impressive start to the outdoor year with the Beavers earning 14 top-five finishes.
As a team, the Beavers ended up compiling 97 points to come in fourth out of 11 teams.
Tierra Doss earned a trio of top-three results in the shot put, discus and hammer. Doss placed second in the shot put with a mark of 41-4.5. In the discus, it was another second-place finish with a throw of 130-10. She then added a distance of 146-10 in the hammer to come in third.
Lexi Erickson came in runner-up in the 1,500-meter crossing with a time of 4:51.94.
Abby Syverson grabbed a third-place finish in the 800-meters posting a time of 2:23.80.
Natalie Fultz cleared a height of 5-1.75 in the high jump to place second. Fultz added another top-five finish in the 400-meter hurdles coming in fifth with a time of 1:09.70.
Olivia Olson came in third in the pole vault clearing a mark of 9-8. Olson just missed a top-five finish in the 100-meter coming in sixth with a time of 13.06.
Josie Aitken placed fourth in the 400-meters crossing with a time of 1:02.08.
Mary Goodwin added a fourth-place finish in the 5,000-meters with a time of 19:08.81.
The 4x400 relay team of Aitken, Erickson, Fultz and Syverson came in second with a time of 4:09.84.
Mikenna Pattrin came in fourth with a throw of 36-10.25 in the shot put. Pattrin added another top-five finish in the hammer with a throw of 139-0 to come in fifth. She came in sixth in the javelin reaching a mark of 112-11. Pattrin also competed in the discus coming in 11th with a throw of 99-7.
Alyssa Hill had a strong debut in the discus placing fourth with a distance of 119-3. Hill also competed in the hammer reaching a distance of 95-4 to place 16th.
The Beavers had four other student-athletes compete in the 1,500-meter. Maggie McCarthy crossed with a time of 5:18.09 (17th), Carol Miller was right behind with a time of 5:20.44 (18th), Nadia Vaughn with a time of 5:30.75 (22nd) and Callie Ressler posting a time of 5:32.70 (23rd).
Lily Johnson also entered in the 400-meter hurdles coming in with a time of 1:11.83 to place eighth. Johnson also competed in the javelin with a throw of 72-2 to come in 16th.
Abbie Disbrow reached a distance of 32-7 in the triple jump to come in seventh.
Cassidy Schmidt competed in the shot put with a throw of 30-10.25 to come in 17th. Schmidt had a solid throw in the discus reaching a mark of 113-11 to come in seventh. In the hammer, Schmidt placed 13th with a throw of 108-0.
Alexis Gehrig competed in the discus with a throw of 85-6 to come in 14th. Gehrig also competed in the hammer placing 10th with a throw of 119-6.
Bemidji State will look to compete in the St. Thomas Invitational this coming Friday, Apr. 7 in St. Paul, Minn.
