JAMESTOWN, N.D. – The Bemidji State University Cross Country earned a fifth-place finish at the 6,000-meter Jimmie Invitational Friday evening in Jamestown, N.D.
Maggie McCarthy and
Carol Miller each grabbed Top 10 finishes in the first 6K race of the season.
Maggie McCarthy's 23:42.6 finish grabbed her fifth place on the podium. This is the first 6K race the Beavers have participated in since the 2023 NCAA Division II Central Region Cross Country Championships, the race where McCarthy grabbed her personal best in the 6K of 23:26.8. Senior
Carol Miller joined McCarthy in the Top 10 lineup with an eighth-place finish. Miller finished the race at the 24:08 mark, around 45 seconds shy of her personal best of 23:15.9 which was also set at last season's Central Region Championships.
As a team, the Beavers grabbed fifth place out of eight teams. Minnesota State University Moorhead took the top spot with three Top 10 finishes, followed by Northern State University in second place.
Abigail Namukwaya marked a time of 25:22.2 in her first 6K of her college career.
Carmen Lyon marked a 25:36.4 finish, a personal best which broke her previous 6K record set last October at the same event.
Sophie Rylance and
Ava Werner rounded out the team with finishes of 26:26.8 and 27:26.7, respectively.
The Beavers are now gearing up for the Bob Waxlax Invitational, hosted by St. Cloud State University, Oct. 9. The 6,000-meter meet will be run on the Wapicada Golf Course in Sauk Rapids, Minn. at 5 p.m.
