Beaver Tennis continues NSIC schedule against No. 20 Vikings and Cougars

BSU Women’s Tennis travels to Sioux Falls to face Augustana and USF

BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Bemidji State University Women's Tennis team travels to Sioux Fall, S.D., this Friday and Saturday for a pair of Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference matches. The Beavers begin the weekend against No. 20 Augustana University Friday, Feb. 23 at 7:00 p.m., before finishing off the weekend with a match against University of Sioux Falls Saturday also at 7:00 p.m.
 
The Beavers (0-3, 0-2 NSIC) were in Grand Forks, N.D., last weekend for conference matches against St. Cloud State University and University of Minnesota Duluth, facing defeat twice falling 0-7 and 3-4, respectively. The Beavers narrowly fell to the Bulldogs Sunday morning falling 3-4 in the match with BSU taking two matches in doubles at No. 2 and No. 3. Sophomore Emilia Sand and freshman Ana Lucia Ibanez earned a 6-1 victory at No. 2 doubles while seniors Sophie Groen and Isabela Nelson won No. 3 doubles also by the score of 6-1. Sand also won No. 3 singles by scores of 1-6, 6-3 and 6-3 to earn the Beavers' their third point.
 
Freshman Kate Taylor (0-3) has played all three matches at No. 1 singles so far this season while Valesca Rodriguez (0-3), Sand (1-2), Ibanez (2-1), Laura Burger (0-3) and Nelson (0-3) follow at two through six respectively.
 
The duo of Taylor and Rodriguez has played all three matches at No. 1 doubles for BSU and are 0-3. Sand and Ibanez are 1-2 at No. 2 doubles while Sophie Groen and Nelson are 1-1 at No. 3 doubles.
 
Augustana comes into the weekend red hot after dismantling Sioux Falls last weekend, 7-0. The Vikings are ranked 20th in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings with a record of 3-1 (1-0 NSIC). The Beavers look to catch their first ever win against the Vikings, with this being the 17th meeting between the two, with Augustana winning all 16 previous matches. Florentia Hadjigeorgiou leads the Vikings playing all No. 1 singles and is the reigning NSIC Player of the Year.
 
Sioux Falls (1-1, 0-1 NSIC) will face off against Minnesota Crookston on Friday before their meeting with the Beavers, looking to bounce back after their crushing loss to Augustana.
