MOORHEAD, Minn. – The Bemidji State University Cross Country team grabbed third place in the annual Minnesota State University Moorhead Dragon Twilight Friday evening. Additionally, four Beavers tabbed personal best times for the 5,000-meter distance race.
Junior
Maggie McCarthy led the charge with an 18
th-place finish and time of 19:26.196, the only Beaver to land in the top 20. McCarthy was not alone in the top 25 as
Carol Miller crossed the finish line in 23
rd place with a time of 19:39.02. Also landing above 30
th,
Nadia Vaughn and
Sophie Rylance grabbed 28
th and 29
th place with times of 19:56.325 and 19:56.868, respectively. Rounding out the top five finishes for the Beavers,
Abigail Namukwaya grabbed 42
nd, finishing at the 20:54.487 mark.
Along with the Beavers' top three finish, a quartet of runners grabbed personal-best times.
Carol Miller set her personal best in the 5,000-meter distance which was previously set at the Charles Bowles XC Invitational in Bush Park Salem, Ore. on Sep. 30, 2023. She beat her time by over eight seconds, dropping from 19:47.7 to 19:39.02.
Sydnie Price also set a personal record in the 5k, going from 22:11.9 to 21:58.4, her previous PR set last week at the Toni St. Pierre Invitational in St. Cloud, Minn.
Sophie Rylance also dropped her 5K time from 20:44.6 to 19:59.9 and
Ava Werner went from 23:18.9 to 22:58.8.
The Beavers now prepare for the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Preview in Minot, N.D. on Oct. 4. Hosted by Minot State University, the race kicks off a stretch of 6,000-meter races for the remainder of the Fall season.
